Preventing Violence Against Women
EDC partners with institutions worldwide in efforts to eliminate
violence against women. Our projects address this deep-seated
problem in many different ways, including advocacy, educational
programs, research, and through innovative uses of distance technologies.
We are committed to developing and sharing effective strategies
for eliminating gender-based violence in diverse communities around
the world.

Inter-American Forum: "The Role of Education in Preventing
Gender-based Violence" held in February 2002. The forum
brought together researchers and practitioners from 10 countries
to share their approaches to the theme of violence education
and prevention. It was sponsored by the Gender and Diversities
Institute at EDC and the Center for Research in Women's
Studies (Centro de Investigación en Estudios de la

Online Discussion |
In 2000, international
advocates for women's rights came together via the End-Violence
Virtual Working Group, an Internet discussion list developed
and moderated by EDC's
Global
Learning Group. During the course of the year, more
than 2,500 people from every region of the world participated
in a dynamic discussion, using e-mail to share experiences,
resources, and ideas about what works in the effort to end
violence against women. The group is now building a resource
base of cases, successful strategies, and lessons learned.

Campus Sexual Assault Policies |
A new study from
EDC’s
Health and
Human Development Programs finds that college and university
compliance with campus sexual assault policies is lacking.
The two-year study is the first comprehensive investigation
of how the nation’s institutions of higher education
comply with the federal disclosure laws in responding to
student allegations of rape and sexual assault, and preventing
its occurrence.
