Zooming in on MathProgram that brings mathematics to life inspires both teachers and studentsOne way to grow as a teacher is by becoming a student again. Focus on Mathematics (FoM) is a community in which educators, administrators, and mathematicians work together with students to put rigorous mathematics at the core of their teaching and learning. Through FoM’s content-based professional development, teachers from five Greater Boston school districts are deepening their knowledge of and skills for teaching mathematics. In turn, they are applying this knowledge to stimulate learning among their students in grades 5-12. Listen as Kathy Bodie, a school administrator, and teachers John Bookston and Marek Janota-Bzowski discuss their work teaching mathematics.
Funded by the National Science Foundation, FoM is a unique partnership of mathematicians and educators from Boston University, EDC, UMass Lowell, Lesley University, and five Greater Boston school districts: Arlington, Chelsea, Lawrence, Waltham, and Watertown. |
