EDC Opens Production Studio in India
On
December 22, 2003, EDC and the Government of Karnataka, India,
inaugurated a new media production studio in Bangalore. The state-of-the-art
studio will provide digital editing suites for local producers
to create educational materials for primary schools across the
Indian state of Karnataka. The digital studios are located at the
Directorate of State Educational Research and Training (DSERT)
office in Bangalore.
EDC’s
Bangalore office is home for the dot-EDU
T4-India Project that is using interactive radio instruction
and educational
television for math,
science and
English
as a second
language in three states of India. The project is designed
to reach some of the hardest to reach populations, including
girls
and
lower
castes.
The
digital video and audio studios will facilitate these
development goals.
The three-year project is funded by USAID, with collaboration
of state governments and local organization.
EDC
President Janet Whitla attended the ribbon cutting ceremony in
Bangalore, along with EDC's Ms. Vandita Sharma, Country Director
and Mr. T. Venugopal, Finance and Operations Manager. Present from
the Indian government were Mr. V.R. Patel, Commissioner, Public
Instructions, Karnataka, Mr. Jaggannath Rao, Director, DSERT and
Mr. Bhaskariah, Director, Primary Education, Karnataka.
“
We’re very excited to have these new extraordinary resources
right in our office,” said Sharma. “We expect
that this studio will help us efficiently and effectively reach
more teachers and children.”
