EDC Launches New Web Site

New Site Offers Many Ways to Explore EDC

Welcome to the redesigned and greatly expanded EDC Web site. Not only have we added color, graphics, and photos, we've provided important new features and tools to help you find information about our 22 divisions and centers, 350 projects, 75 project Web sites, and hundreds of publications.

Highlights include:

EDC Themes

We've organized all EDC content into five key themes, which appear in the navigation bar across the top of every page. The theme pages provide an overview of our work in that area, along with links to projects and Content Tours that relate specifically to that theme.

Content Tours

The EDC Content Tours are a new feature that allow visitors to take a "tour" through EDC's work in a particular area of expertise. Each tour showcases a range of online content, including relevant Web sites, feature articles (formerly called "Spotlights"), research reports, and publication abstracts with ordering information. We currently offer more than 18 Content Tours on the site and we will be launching new ones—along with updating existing ones—every month.

Search options

We've greatly improved and expanded the search options available to navigate EDC's extensive body of work. These searches are designed to meet the needs of all visitors—from parents to practitioners—looking for specific information:

  • The free text option provides "one-stop" searching. You can enter a phrase in and immediately get results of projects, centers, division, publications, and Web sites that contain the term in the title or description.
  • The Powersearch allows you to search by theme and keywords within that theme, by keywords that cut across all themes, or by division/center.
  • The project descriptions provide links to project Web sites, related articles, and project publications.

About EDC

The new About EDC section includes an expanded history section, complete with a timeline of flagship EDC projects. This section also provides information on our structure, funding, staff, and centers.

Newsroom

Brand new to the site is a Newsroom page designed specifically for journalists interested in EDC's work and looking for story ideas and EDC experts in a wide range of areas.

Feature Articles

Each month, we add 3-4 Feature Articles, which highlight research findings or news about specific EDC projects. The Feature Article archives, which are organized by date and topic, include dozens of former Spotlight stories from our old Web site.

Mosaic

Now available on the site are six complete issues of Mosaic, an EDC Report Series. The latest issue—When School Reform Lasts—focuses on the dynamics of sustainable school improvement. Coming Soon: the Winter 2003 issue of Mosaic, focusing on our recent Youth Employment Summit in Alexandria, Egypt.

Accessibility

In designing this site, we've added a range of features aimed at ensuring full access to information by all individuals. Read more about the accessibility features of the EDC Web site.

We hope these new features help you find what you're looking for on the new EDC site. If you have any comments or suggestions, please contact us at: www@edc.org.
