1. New Literacy Web Site for Parents

EDC and PBS have launched a site on children's language and literacy development. Created by EDC's Center for Children and Families (CCF) and Center for Children and Technology (CCT), the Talking and Reading Together section on the PBS site addresses how young children become readers and writers, and offers tips for parents who can help by talking, reading, and writing with their children every day.

2. EDC Study Finds Lax Reporting of Sexual Assault on College Campuses

Two-year study finds lax reporting. Only 37 percent of America's institutions of higher education report sexual crime statistics in full compliance with federal law, according to an EDC report released to Congress last month by the U.S. Department of Justice, National Institutes of Justice.

3. National Inclusive Schools Week is December 2-6

National Inclusive Schools Week, which involved tens of thousands of participants in nearly all 50 states in 2001, will highlight the nation's progress in providing a quality education to an increasingly diverse student population. Downloadable Celebration Kit available.

4. EDC's New Web Site is Improved and Expanded

EDC's new Web site provides new features and useful tools to help you find information about our 22 divisions and centers, 350 projects, 75 project Web sites, and hundreds of publications.

5. EDC Awarded $7.5 Million for Suicide Prevention-HHS Grant Will Fund National Resource Center

The division of Health and Human Development Programs at EDC will establish a national suicide prevention resource center, with a grant of $2.5 million per year for 3 years, to provide information and assistance to communities implementing suicide prevention programs.

6. Tour of the Month: Online Learning Communities

EDC's new Web tours are an exploration of EDC's online resources. In this featured tour, learn about EDC's extensive experience developing, maintaining, and evaluating online communities around the world. Whether it's a community of doctors sharing experiences with end-of-life care, or advocates sharing strategies to end violence against women around the world, EDC has extensive experience developing and maintaining a variety of online communities.
