1. On the Wavelength with Learning

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, students face two hurdles to their learning: quality of education and school fees. EDC is addressing these challenges by producing and broadcasting daily radio lessons that reach even the most remote schools, working with communities to reduce the financial burden of sending children to school.

In Madagascar, only half of the children progress beyond second grade. Using educational radio programs that feature games, songs, and stories, EDC is promoting interactive literacy and math instruction.

2. Improving the Health of American Indian Youth

Stephanie Autumn, a member of the Hopi Nation and director of EDC’s Tribal Youth Program, works with reservation and urban American Indian communities to strengthen family and community ties.

3. Diversity in Preschool

As the Latino population in the United States grows, so does a large achievement gap. An EDC-designed professional development program is helping preschools offer an enriched program that is interactive and culturally and linguistically responsive.

A new EDC study evaluates whether youth-oriented marketing strategies—like those used to market products on TV and online—can be used to promote reading and literacy.
