EDC’s Adult Literacy Media Alliance Receives Grant for Investor Education Video Programming
NEWTON, MA – EDC’s Adult Literacy Media Alliance (ALMA) has been awarded a grant of $210,000 from the NASD Investor Education Foundation to produce investor education video programming that teaches key math concepts and makes investment language more meaningful to public television viewers, particularly women with low literacy skills.
The project, called Calculating Women: Smart Investors-A TV Special and a Multimedia Investor Literacy Project, will produce three educational video segments and other teaching materials aimed at American women with a 5th to 8th grade reading level. The materials will help them learn key concepts that can improve their ability to manage money, understand the math behind investing, and avoid financial scams.
The content of this program will be broadcast as part of ALMA’s television series TV411, which airs primarily on national public television and non-commercial cable stations. Through ALMA's network of adult education providers and state departments of education, the program will make available student and teaching materials, including Web lessons and a DVD for teachers in community-based classrooms around the country.
ALMA, which is based in EDC’s New York offices, receives support from foundation, government, and industry partners. For more information, contact ALMA at 800-304-1922 or
