Almougairata Hamidou Maiga, an experienced Malian educator, currently serves as EDC’s national coordinator for the education arm of the Food for Education (MGD4) project led by Catholic Relief Services. Previously, as part of the Mali USAID/PHARE program, a large primary education project, Maiga oversaw data collection activities for coordinating monitoring and evaluation. He also trained literacy and numeracy volunteers in Niger, Cameroon, Benin, Guinea, and Togo and was instrumental in designing, implementing, and researching the impact of balanced literacy in Mali.
In his 11 years with EDC, Maiga has established, maintained, and strengthened the technical rigor of activities to improve the quality of education, as well as trained and supervised field-based teacher trainers. Additionally, he designed qualitative and quantitative monitoring tools to rigorously evaluate pedagogical approaches (including balanced literacy); teacher performance; and student skills in literacy, numeracy, and science. He is a key contributor to the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie and the Evaluation Systems Analysis (PASEC).
Previous to EDC, Maiga was a head teacher of psycho-pedagogy and a primary school teacher for 16 years.
