Viwe Mtshontshi is the chief of party of the South Africa School-Based Sexuality and HIV Prevention Activity. This activity is a cross-sectoral collaboration of the education, health, and social development sectors to reduce the high rate of learner pregnancy, prevent new HIV infections, and reduce gender-based violence, especially among adolescent girls and young women.
Previously, Mtshontshi served as director of Public Private Partnerships and director of the Kellogg Southern Africa Leadership Programme at FHI 360 and as the AED Southern Africa regional director. She began her career in South Africa as a high school math and English SL teacher and a career guidance teacher. She also joined teacher-led initiatives that provided relevant professional development needs to teachers in transforming South Africa. She was a co-founder of the Institute for Partnership between Education and Business (IPEB), where she facilitated collaborations between the corporate and education sectors.
Mtshontshi holds an MA in Education from George Washington University, a BEd from the University of Witwatersrand, and a BA from the University of Fort Hare, South Africa.
